The Thank You Project: #145 (Getting Recognized or Awarded)
Not to brag or anything but if you visit my house in Corpus Christi, you will find a lot of awards that I won that are still up on the shelf. My mom has kept them up there on display and everytime I come back home I find myself looking through all of those awards again and thinking about how I got some of them. It always feels great to be rewarded doesn’t it? To get a trophy after a competition, to get a pat on the back, or just to be told that you did a great job. It makes you feel good inside and it encourages you to be a better person. Today’s thank you is for those times that you get rewarded and how good it makes you feel.
Think about a trophy or certificate you’ve gotten in the past. How do you feel about it? Can you tell a story about what happened and the circumstances behind the award? I’m pretty sure most people can and they would smile when they do. I think that everyone likes to get a little motivation, a little pat on the back to know that the job they’re doing is outstanding and really helps others.
Getting that recognition is awesome but giving it out to others is even better. In a society where sometimes it’s work first all the time, it’s always good to be told that you’ve done a good job on something whether it’s formally or just a side comment. Something like that can really perk up your day and give you extra motivation to keep on going.
So the next time you get recognized, feel free to stand up and be proud. Feel how great it is but also give thanks to the person that recognized you and pass it along to others!
