Everybody knows the well-known saying “Nice guys finish last”…but nobody really knows why. Why is the nice guy, who is probably the nicest, sweetest, most caring and generous person that you know, always the one that finishes last? Philip Wang, Wesley Chan, and Ted Fu of Wong Fu Productions know, and they give good advice to help the nice guy/girl in everybody.
A few years ago, under the name of Sketchbook Media, they made a 3-part series called “Just a Nice Guy” and posted it on YouTube. Philip Wang plays a college student named Nick. Nick’s “problem” is that he’s a nice guy. All of his friends just see him as a sweet guy that would help them out in any jam and just be there for them, just like he would for anybody else. He doesn’t understand why he can’t get a girl to like him. He takes some bad advice from a friend (Wes) who tells him that he needs to act cool and be a jerk to attract the ladies.
He tries out this new personality at a party and it only seems to repel the girls away from him. When he sees that he’s starting to lose the girl of his dreams (Amy, who only sees him as a friend) to some guy that is apparently a jerk, he gets some advice from Amy’s friend. She tells Nick that Amy only sees him as a friend because that’s how he treats her. He treats everyone the same. If he sees anyone that’s being left out, he’s quick to come to their aid and help them out. He’s sweet, caring, and considerate to everyone, so how is Amy supposed to know that she is special to him?
This is perfect advice for anyone that feels like they’re down on their luck in the dating community and feels like they’ve been blacklisted since they’ve been labeled as the “nice guy” or “nice girl.” If you like someone, go out of the way to show them that they’re special to you!! You don’t have to be a jerk to make them think that you’re cool. Anyone that thinks that jerks are cool or are always going for the bad boys/girls are probably sad and confused and they don’t know what they really want. With a nice guy or girl, you know that that person genuinely cares for you and your well-being.
If you’re a nice guy or a nice girl, don’t give up! The world could use more nice guys and nice girls like you!!
So, are you a nice guy?
